SWEDEN, October 14 - Published
On 15–17 October, Minister for Foreign Affairs Maria Malmer Stenergard and Minister for Infrastructure and Housing Andreas Carlson will travel to Seoul to take part in Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel’s official visit to South Korea. Ms Malmer Stenergard will meet with her South Korean counterpart, Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Hyun. Mr Carlson will meet with the Minister for Trade and the Vice Minister at the Ministry for Trade, Industry and Resources.
“South Korea is an important partner for Sweden in the Indo-Pacific region. Sweden and South Korea have close cooperation in a number of areas, such as security and defence, energy and strategic technology. Sweden also has a long history of engagement for peace and security on the Korean peninsula,” says Ms Malmer Stenergard.
Ms Malmer Stenergard will take part in official meetings with representatives of the South Korean Government and will also visit Sweden’s delegation to the Neutral Nations Supervisory Commission, which has been monitoring compliance with the Armistice Agreement since 1953. During her visit to Seoul, she will meet with her South Korean counterpart, Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Hyun.
Mr Carlson will lead a Team Sweden delegation consisting of business representatives, focusing on green transition and strategic technology.
“Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel’s participation underscores the significance, and the delegation includes a number of leading Swedish companies, such as Ericsson, Hitachi, Astra Zeneca, Saab and Volvo. Sweden also has a long history of cooperation with South Korea. For example, Ericsson made a name for itself back in 1896 when it installed Korea’s first magneto telephone in the Imperial Palace and was thereby one of the first telecommunications suppliers present in the country,” says Mr Carlson.
He will visit Seoul and Busan and have his own bilateral meetings with the Minister for Trade and the Vice Minister at the Ministry for Trade, Industry and Resources. Mr Carlson will also give a speech at an investors’ breakfast – the Strategic Partnership Summit – and deliver an opening address at a roundtable discussion on energy issues with Swedish and Korean companies.
Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel’s visit aims to strengthen bilateral relations with South Korea and help achieve the objectives of the Government’s Strategy for Sweden’s foreign trade, investment and global competitiveness, and its investment in Asia
